How are new ideas born? How do they become real products? And what does open source mean? You can find out in our TechLab!

Produce, Learn, Do it Yourself!”

The TechLab at the Deutsches Technikmuseum is a creative space for digital manufacturing, hands-on invention, and sustainable design. This interactive exhibition showcases how digital production technologies work and the exciting possibilities they offer.

The focus is on modern technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and other computer-aided manufacturing processes. A special highlight is the LaserDuo—a powerful laser cutter that enables precise cuts in wood and acrylic.

Hands-on exploration is at the heart of the TechLab: Visitors can try out 3D printers, laser cutters, and other high-tech tools for themselves. Fascinating demonstrations offer insights into how these machines work. In the open workshop, visitors can bring their own ideas to life, repair objects, or experiment with new techniques.

There is also a varied program especially for school groups and families: Workshops show how to create innovative objects from simple materials or how everyday items can be easily repaired.

The TechLab is a space for experimentation, discovery, and creativity—with or without prior experience. Just drop by—we look forward to seeing you! Soon, we will also offer bookable programs for school classes (in German).

With the right explanation, even 3D printing is child's play - and fun!

The TechLab was made possible by funding from the „Freunde und Förderer des Deutschen Technikmuseums Berlin e.V.“, the museum’s supporting organization.

Where can I find the TechLab?

The TechLab is located in the main building, on the first floor of the “Beamtenhaus” Museum area, between the two locomotive sheds.

Opening hours and programs
