The neighboring Science Center Spectrum is a place full of experiments: Across 2,000 square meters, 150 experiments in the natural sciences and technology invite visitors to get involved. As an experience-oriented, extracurricular learning center, the Spectrum follows in the tradition of the Berlin Urania (1888–1928), which was inspired by the ideas of Alexander von Humboldt. An extensive library on the history of technology, which is open to the public, and the Historical Archives complement our diverse range of exhibitions and educational programs.

Exploring the core issues of our time

With their visitor-oriented and realistic exhibits, the Foundation’s museums are highly attractive to a steadily growing number of domestic and international visitors. They impart knowledge and stimulate discussion about various aspects of technological development. In this way, the Foundation makes an important contribution to an informed engagement with the core issues of our time.

The Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin-Kreuzberg is one of the world’s leading technology museums. It is located on the historic grounds of the Gleisdreieck transportation hub and the Anhalter freight yard. The “Candy Bomber" on the facade of the new building has become an internationally recognized landmark. Spanning 28,500 square meters, it offers an exciting journey of discovery through the cultural history of technology. On display are fascinating exhibitions on aviation, shipping, rail transportation, the world of technological connectivity, sugar, automotive technology, film technology, the history of computing, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals—and much more. From the very beginning, our approach to teaching the history of technology has focused on the connection between people and technology. The idyllic museum park, with its mills, pond, and brewery, is an oasis in the heart of the city. 

In 2023, the Stiftung Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin received the “audit berufundfamilie” certificate for the first time in recognition of the strategic design of its family-friendly human resources policy. The certificate is regarded as a seal of quality for a company’s work-life balance policy and is awarded by the Board of Trustees of berufundfamilie Service GmbH. A prerequisite for certification is successfully completing the corresponding audit process, during which the current status of the family-friendly measures already in place is assessed and the organization’s specific potential is systematically developed. 
As part of the audit, not only were strategic goals defined, but also specific measures, which are set forth in a target agreement. These will now be implemented as needed over the three-year certification period. The practical implementation is reviewed annually by berufundfamilie Service GmbH.
