Education

The Kids Digilab workshops are fun! Through play, children explore the digital world and strengthen their digital skills. The Digilab also offers professional development courses for educators and teaching staff from daycare centres and primary schools.

Developing skills with fun

The Kids Digilab is a learning and experimentation space dedicated to digital education. Here, children aged three to ten explore digital phenomena that already shape their everyday lives: What is data? How are robots programmed? And how does the internet work? At the Digilab, children experience computer science in a playful, age-appropriate way, with a strong focus on everyday life. By having fun while learning, they develop the essential digital skills they need to shape their future independently and responsibly.

The Digilab also focuses on educators and teaching staff from daycare centres and primary schools. It offers professional development courses, multimedia teaching recommendations and easily accessible educational materials.

Workshops for kids

At the Kids Digilab, children explore how digital technologies are created and shaped by people. The programme invites them on a journey through the history of technology and encourages them to discuss our shared future. The Digilab supports children in exploring digital phenomena independently, developing their own problem-solving strategies and helping shape the digital future.
For the time being, children can visit the Kids Digilab only as part of their daycare group or primary school class. In the near future, children will once again be able to take part in the open activities with their families during an individual museum visit.

Professional Development for Educators and Teachers

Another key focus of the Kids Digilab is supporting educators and teaching staff in daycare centres and primary schools. It offers professional development courses designed to strengthen subject-specific and methodological skills, as well as confidence in using digital learning tools.
The Kids Digilab provides multimedia teaching recommendations and educational materials for continued use in educational settings. The Kids Digilab supports children and adults sustainably and over the long term on their journey towards digital self-determination.

About the Kids Digilab

The Kids Digilab was established in 2020 as kids.digilab.berlin, an initiative of the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, in close cooperation with the Stiftung Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin. As a pilot project, it was funded by the Senate Department for Education until the end of 2023. The Kids Digilab is operated by the Deutsches Technikmuseum.

The programme resumed in mid-February 2024, thanks to a donation from Amazon Future Engineer.

The pilot project kids.digilab.box was transferred to BITS 21 at fjs e.V. The accompanying programmes are delivered as part of Fokus Medienbildung.

Gemeinsam erforschen wir im Digilab die digitale Welt von gestern, heute und morgen. Verschiedene Geräte wie Roboter und Mikrokontroller warten darauf, dass wir sie uns gemeinsam erschließen und ausprobieren. SDTB 1/1
